The formation of seminarians in today’s socio-cultural and religious context is not an easy task. To be able to identify with Christ, «the good shepherd», and to live pastoral charity, the seminarian must make a deep and troubled itinerary formation. This is why we highlight the model of formation of future priests: Christ, the good shepherd, and the Supreme Sacerdote. The final objective of the formation is to form in the young seminarians the feelings of the Son of God. This task has some implications in the path: to form a man of faith and a prophet, a pastor, and a preacher of the Gospel for the cultures. This is why, with a critical look, we try to analyze the situation in which the young man of nowadays finds himself, underlining his resources and concerns, as well as the various problematic aspects. In the last part, we would discuss the mission of the various protagonists in the work of the formation of future priests.

This ongoing process is always under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who works through the gifts of the Spiritual Director and the seminarian. In this article, we will begin with the fact that, in order to accompany someone in spiritual growth it is necessary to engage well in a period of discernment. Both spiritual direction and discernment bear fruit under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The following article is entitled Practical Indications for Spiritual Growth. It takes the Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis as its starting point, as this document considers the spiritual formation of the priest as “the heart which unites and enlivens both his identity and actions as a priest. We will seek to provide some practical indications suitable to help the seminarian in the process of spiritual growth. Among these indications are included: the indispensability of the Word of God, the importance of the Liturgy, personal prayer, which provides sustenance for service in pastoral charity and devotion to Mary, which accompanies the spiritual life.

Pius Petru Iancu: La formazione dei giovani presbiteri. Analisi della situazione e prospettive

The beginnings are always difficult and risky. The same situation comes at the beginning of the priestly life. The newly ordained priest enters in the service dedicated entirely to evangelization. In order not to scupper his priestly life, the young priest must be aware that the work of formation does not end with priestly ordination, but continues along the path of life. In this study we want to deepen the connection between initial and ongoing formation, underlining in the same way the resources and risks that run in the lives of young priests. All this to find out valid points that can support the beginnings of the priestly life of those young people who today, with great generosity, offer their lives in the service of God and their brothers.

Anton Dancă: Vocaţia la preoţie şi la viaţa consacrată

The testimony-article shows the fact that the author didn’t have too many information concerning the 2nd Vatican Council, but hoped in a better change in the life of the Iassy Dioceses’ Church, tested so hard, starting especially with 1998, when the Seminaries and convents were closed down. Many teenagers, having only a small step in reaching out the sacerdotal ideal, and many aspirants to the consecrated life, even those who vowed votes for life, had to come back to their so burdened families, because the war wounds weren’t healed enough. Some young people, seeing the wilderness of those times, enlisted to other schools, if permitted, and others started the family life.
Then, as today, people weren’t used to see how „God writes straight on skew lines”. The consecrated persons assembled in the Church for hours of adoration, gathered money in order to pay Masses for better times, took care of the altars’ beautification and offered their services to the parish as many times necessary, etc. Slowly, seeing their example, many young girls shyly got closed to ask them a spiritual guidance, feeling deep down the urge to serve Jesus in the consecrated life. The author thinks that many young people owe their call to the prayers and sacrifices of these persons banned from monasteries.

Petru Gherghel: Dumnezeu Tatăl – preotul tată

Biserica, şi în mod special sfântul părinte papa Ioan Paul al-II-lea, ne invită să-l descoperim pe Dumnezeu Tatăl şiiubirea sa veşnică, să trăim marea realitate de a fi aleşi ca fii ai săi şi să ne bucurăm când ne binecuvântează, ne îmbrăţişează şi ne iartă. Atât exegeţii, cât şi Părinţii Bisericii ne ajută să trăim misterul unui singur Dumnezeu în trei persoane şi să-l cunoaştem pe Tatăl, originea şi creatorul întregii vieţi. În final, preasfinţitul se opreşte asupra spiritualităţii preotului,a supra apostolului Paul – model de părinte spiritual, subliniind legătura spirituală care face ca tatăl să fie tată respectat de fii în măsura în care cultivă în ei bunăvoinţa harului divin. Tatăl spiritual îl reprezintă pe Tatăl veşnic atunci când face vie iubirea Sa divină.

L’appelation Saint–Père appliquée au Souverain Pontife

Sublinierea unicităţii paternităţii divine (cf. Mt 23,9), alături de prezentarea originii expresiei de sfânt părinte adresată Pontifului Roman, amândouă încadrate în istoria Bisericii, sunt două dintre aspectele forte ale textului conferinţei. Denumirea de sfânt părinte arată raporul filial şi afectuos dintre Episcopul Romei şi cel care i se adresează, misiunea sa de tată spiritual, precum şi responsabilitatea celui denumit astfel de a trăi conform voinţei lui Dumnezeu (cf. Lev 19,2). Sunt prezentate aici şi consecinţele ecleziale ale folosirii expresiei sfânt părinte. Adevărata cunoaştere a Tatălui se face prin Isus Cristos (cf. Mt 11,27).

Desired by the 2nd Vatican Council, the renewal work in the Church is in a peculiar way the outcome of priests’ efforts. This is why the Synod Fathers have considered that is more convenient to treat about the priesthood in a separate document. After presenting the nature of priesthood, the decree speaks about the priest’s role in the Church, about the priest’s ministry and about the life of priests. This dialogue wishes to offer a general view upon the Presbyterorum ordinis decree and the way in which the document must be read and interpreted.

One of the most important documents of the 2nd Council of Vatican was the decree about the priestly ministry and life Presbyterorum ordinis, promulgated at 7 December 1965. This text is the result of four schemes and even from the beginning shows the christological structure of the priestly figure. The priest is sent to the people of his time to speak about the Christ, co-operating with the bishop of the diocese; the aim of his life is to extol the Father in the Christ. The document insists on the importance that has to have the sacraments in the priestly life; without the sacraments his mission is bankrupt and harms to the Mystical Body. This article develops, in three parts, the radiography of the „counciliar” priest, and the author tries to show the applicability of the document in the daily priestly life.

The decree Optatam totius occupies a special place between the documents of the 2nd Council of Vatican. This document, whose purpose is the priestly formation’s renovation conforming to the renovated image of the priest, is very close to Presbyterorum Ordinis, Lumen Gentium and to other documents, which discuss about the human, intellectual and pastoral formation of the future priests. The apostolic exhortation Pastores dabo vobis constitutes a survey of the fruits of Optatam totius and the reassertation of the programme which was suggested by the Council concerning the priestly formation.
