Presbyterorum ordinis: utopia or call to holiness?

Unitatis redintegratio decree on ecumenism – the cornerstone of contemporary ecumenism

Inter mirifica: The Church and the mass-media – fifty years together

The aim of this paper is to present the relationship of the text Rev 21:12-14 with the context of the Revelation. With respect to the theme, the first step is the delimitation trough a literary analysis. The present purpose is to demonstrate the unity of the biblical fragment. The second step will be the study of the relationships of our text with the context, specially the close context Rev 17-22. All the reflections keep in mind the general structure of the book. In the end it will be a short conclusion on the importance of the text related with John’s intentions.

About the Missionary Activity of Pope Francis
The paper proposes to show how Pope Francis presents the missionary activity of the Christian Church in Evangelii Gaudium Apostolic Exhortation and Lumen Fidei encyclical using the narrative method of studying. It is specified that this two pontifical papers have the Gaudim et Spes pontifical document as their reference point. Also, Pope Francis did not forget to mention that the red line of messianism crossed the entire Bible. The framework of study is marked by the consumer society, which although brought prosperity, induces a state of selfishness throughout the world.

Anton Durcovici: from cradle to the foot of Calvary

Pontifical Diplomacy. The Holy See and the comunist countries in Central and Eastern Europe

Condemnation of communism in pontifical magisterium. Since Pius IX to Paul VI
The present article, based on several magisterial documents, illustrates the approach of Roman Pontiffs, beginning with Pius IX and ending with Paul VI, with regard to what used to be called „red plague”, i.e. communism. The article analyses one by one various encyclical letters, apostolic letters, speeches and radio messages in which Roman Pontiffs condemned socialist theories, either explicitly or implicitly.

The ecclesiology is an important theme in the Book of Revelation. John presents this portrait of the Church in relationship with God and Christ. From the numerous ecclesiological images of the book comes out the image of the people of God. They are symbolized by twelve tribes of Israel or by twelve apostles. The community lives as a pilgrim in history and will arrive in the escatological Jerusalem, in front of God’s and Lamb’s throne.
This study focuses on the idea of the unity between the God’s people of the old and new covenant. The starting point is the image of the names of the twelve tribes on the gates, like the names of the twelve apostles on the foundations of the holy city (Rev 21:12-14). The combination of the two elements has as background the notion of a single one Scripture. At the final point, it will be underlined the application of the ideal of unity in different sectors of Church’s life.

The theme of this paper is a matter of faith, a way of human righteousness in front of God in the Epistle to Romans. After some premises that concern the confessional debates based on the epistle and its main theme, our attention will turn to the exegesis of Rom 3:21-26. The exegetic analysis will highlight the two important poles: on one side the righteousness of God, on other side the faith of the human genre. Than, it will be a discussion on the faith’s notion in his relationship with the divine righteousness, justify and the Law. The emphasized thesis is the following: God is righteous, faithful and merciful, through the sacrifice of Christ, it justifies in a free way the sinful man based on his faith. In the end shot conclusions and applications will be stated. It will be underlined the suited truth on which faith is an essential aspect of Christian identity. The same faith remains the opening door of salvation and of everylasting life.

Daniel Iacobuţ
Botezul, poarta credinţei
This article reveals that emeritus pope Benedict XVI’s presentation of Baptism as a door of faith in the Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei is, in fact, rooted into the Church’s liturgical experience, particularly in the rite of celebrating the sacraments of Christian initiation. The article develops this idea in three parts, all three focusing on the baptism seen as a door of faith: the first part presents the Baptism as participation to Christ’s Paschal Mystery; the second part looks at the relationship between Baptism and faith; the third, more liturgical, explores the initial rite of celebrating the Baptism, rite which would take place at the church’s door. In this last part, we show that entering the catechumenate, for both the adult Christian initiation and the beginning of the rite of Baptism for children, was named rite of acceptance and welcoming. It could also be called liminal rites as they take place ad limen, at the church’s door, around a door threshold which meant entering the church once passed by.
Starting with the names – admission, welcoming – we understand that they refer to overcoming separation for becoming closer, for entering in a new relationship, in a communion with God and with the Church through Baptism. In fact, if we consider In 10,7.9, there is only one door through which one could enter to be in communion with God, and this is Christ the Saviour. This is the reason why the place for officiating the rite of welcoming is the church’s door, which symbolizes Christ-the door, and the culmination of this rite is tracing the cross on the forehead, the true door which gives access for the communion with God and with our neighbour. These liminal rites tighten the interdependencies between lex orandi, the law of the prayer, and lex credendi, the law of belief: the Church’s celebration clearly presents the Baptism as the ianua vitae spiritualis, the door of life in the Spirit and the foundation for the entire life of faith of a Christian.

Gânduri pentru o altă lectură a fericirilor (Mt 5)

This paper is trying to focuses a few aspects of the figure of the disciple of Christ in the Gospel of saint Mark. Jesus Christ, from the beginning of his public activity had the intention to be accompanied by disciples. They followed the Saviour and were witnesses of his wonderful words and deeds. After they learned at the school of Jesus, they were sent to continue the work of spreading God’s Kingdom and the Gospel. In what it concerns the illustrating of the theme, after some general elements, will be analyzed two texts from the Gospel : Mk 1:16-20 and Mk 3:13-19. These two fragments reflect an image of discipleship: the vocation, the conditions of the following and the mission. In conclusion, are suggested some theological reflections and an actualization to the situation at this millennium beginning. Even for the present it is important to research to follow Jesus Christ as a disciple.

Educational theories and practices from the last years offered examples about diversity of children and specific educational needs which involve new forms of teaching process in schools starting from the fundamental principle of „adapting the structure and content of instruction to the personal features of students (psychic, physical, age related or individual), in order to develop their personalities as balanced and as harmonious as possible”. In this context we can talk about school for diversity or school for all that means maximum flexibility and tolerance for differences between children/students and adaptation of educational process to the particularities of each individual student.

In particolare prendiamo in considerazione Lumen gentium e Gaudium et spes.

Faith is an essential dimension of human being. This paper proposes itself to emphasize the faith of the great patriarch Abraham, emblematic Bible hero regarding the trust in God. Abraham’s faith will be analyzed under two aspects: firstly, from the perspective of the itinerary of his relationship with God, then the example of constancy and perseverance of his faith. After each treatment, there will exist something that is applied for nowadays Christians. Finally, it appears the exhortation to imitate Abraham’s trust, the man that trusted and hoped against any hope.

In this article the author wants to prove that the base and the life of the Christian family is the Christian faith. In his presentation, the author starts from the premise that faith is an anthropological experience, an existential state which determinates its way of acting and thinking, just when it’s based in the natural truth. Then he carries further with the case of the Christian in today so-ciety, profoundly changed, in which he is invited to observe the belief, especially in the Year of Faith (2012-2013). In the same speech about faith, father I. Enăşoaie characterises faith as an encounter with Christ and a life transformation, but also an epiphany of God. After this decomposition, the author presents the case of the family, showing how faith is the base of the Christian family, the answer being a true faith indeed.

To question to which the answer is still to be found – why is not there anymore belief – is situated in the thinking surrounds of the great Russian writer Dostoevsky, who, to the end of his life, became the “spiritual guide of the Russian people”. Having as an aid the letter belonging to the Russian writer, the article’s writer presents the causes of the unbelief: ignorance regarding the “substance” of Christ and the dead load of the heart. However, although he is aware of the fact that today the atheism and leaving the Christianity is a massive and arrogant phenomenon, father Gh. Patraşcu PhD., emphasises that the religious felling and the Gospel nostalgia are here to touch our hearts, and often with promising results.

Corelativitatea şi complementaritatea finalităţilor în formarea religioasă
This article tries to answer the question: what it’s more impor-tant to target in the religious education of the pupils; passing on knowledge or building-up competences, assimilating some cognitive material or interiori-zing some terms of reference habitual-goodness? To give a straight answer, the author comes to confirm the falsity of the dispute between knowledge and com-petences, so he can the further on show the correlativity between knowledge and competences in the religious education.

In the educational process, an important part comes to the educator characterised as a possible competence inventor. In this article, the author, after he presents what a competence means, especially the pedagogic competence, reviews a set of competences which the person who wants to be an educator for others must have: goodness competence, disciplinary or academic, didactic competence or psycho-pedagogic, psycho-relational competence, the capacity to work in a team and to form a partnership, the knowledge and integration of new informative technologies in the didactic exercise, auto-reflexive competence.

Internetul: un instrument de comunicare
The article analyses the topic of internet in the environment of Church pastoral from two points of view: do we face a communication instrument or more than that, in an evangelized world? The Church presence in the communication world is now a necessity, even if there are some dangers. The author mentions recent magisterial documents that treat this subject, indicating critically the strong and weak aspects of different points of view expressed officially by Church.

Starting with the premise that generally, art (listening to a concert of classical music, visiting a museum, participating at a painting exhibition, etc.) constitutes an exigency of the human spirit and honesty, depending on the in-tellectual preparation and cultural luggage, judgment and hierarchy of artistic options, Father Dr. Florin Spatariu analyses music and arts hierarchy in the thinking of the great German philosopher Hegel. According to his thinking, arts are those ones that succeed to send, most of all, to life spiritual side, but may be, at the same time, ranking pyramidal, each of them occupying a place according to the artistic expression. Then, presenting each art (architecture, sculpture, painting, etc.), the author comes to the conclusion that, for Hegel, all of them are important, but from all of them, poetry occupies the first place because it repre-sents the most authentic form that the human spirit can express freely.

Pr. Fabian Doboş
Dominic Jaquet şi formarea intelectuală a tinerilor catolici moldoveni
In this article, father Fabian Dobos, presents the context of intellectual formation of Moldovan young Catholics, starting with the activity of the bishop Dominic Jaquet (1895-1903) in this regard. After a short biography, the author presents the intellectual formation in Iasi Seminar, founded by the bishop Camilli in 1886, highlighting Jaquet’s care for integral youth formation and for the studies quality in the seminar. Further, the author presents the intellectual formation, this time in the Institute Cipariu, founded by Jaquet in 1895. Then, father Fabian Dobos treats the problem of teaching religion courses in girl schools of the Congregation Notre Dame de Sion from Iasi and Galati. At the end, the author looks over the formative activity of Franciscan Seminar and Cantor School from Halaucesti, institutes founded also by Dominic Jaquet.
The author’s conclusion is that this bishop, during the period when he was parson at Iasi Diocese, sought to form cultural Catholic elite, a group that may be useful to the interests of the Catholics from Romania.

Mihai Robu, părintele episcop și seminarul diecezan
Mihai Robu is the first Moldavian native bishop buried in “The Assumption of Our Lady” Roman-Catholic Cathedral of Iaşi; and the history of Moldavia was tumultuous, as a mystery of suffering in our diocese. We have in front of us a personality that stood out, along his episcopate, by raising numerous churches, with special care for the diocesan seminary, by several canonical visits accompanied by the administration of the sacred chrism, by supporting the Catholic press and, and last but not least, by the protection of those less fortunate during the Second World War. If I had to summarize in five keywords Bishop Mihai Robu’s work, they would be: identity, unity, loyalty, latinity, humanity. The identity refers to the sacramental theology of Christ’s priesthood, which transfigured in the person of Mihai Robu; the unity looks towards the universality of the Catholic Church which he served throughout the whole canonic orthodoxy that he was representing; the loyalty will result in the apostolic love expressed towards the Petrine Apostolic chair; the latinity will be the virtue that has served the people who belonged to, and the humanity will complete the Christian who will be also bent like the merciful Samaritan at all suffering times through which the Romanian people will be passed. We capture here the mystery of the intrinsic unity of life and work of Bishop Mihai Robu while analyzing his pastoral commitment, the sufficiency and determination that will support the Christian nation that was destined to be lead to salvation.

Pr. Alois Moraru
Seminarul din Iaşi în perioada persecuţiei comuniste
Starting from the idea that the seminar is „the heart of a diocese” that pulses and trains all its members, father Alois Moraru presents in this article some aspects from the history of Iasi Catholic Seminar in a dim and difficult period, that one of communism. From the very beginning, the author warns us that this article is a free exposure, using in its elaboration, in the biggest part, original documents kept in different archives from the country and abroad. In the first part, father, after presenting a short history of the first tries of organizing a seminar for young indigenous people, passes and treats the history of Iasi Theological Seminar, beginning with its establishment (1886) and going on with its rather sinuous activity, under the guidance of the Diocese bishops and Institute rectors, till the instauration of communist regime in Romania (1947). In the second part, the author speaks about situation of the Seminar, when Mons. Anton Durcovici was appointed as bishop of Iasi (1947), a more and more difficult situation because of the opposition of communist authorities in developing the pupils and students formation, opposition that would lead even to stopping the Seminar’s activity and moving it, for a period of time, to Alba Iulia.

In this article, Grace Aurel Perca, Iasi auxiliary bishop, willing to reveal some pages of history, that the time, unfortunately, covered or buried in oblivion, reviews a recent period that marked and created the physiognomy of nowadays Seminar, namely, the period when our country came back to the liberty and democracy path by overthrowing the dictatorial communist regime (December 22, 1989). Presenting this period of Seminar’s life, the author wants to underline that these political, social and economic changes from the country influenced Seminar’s life, imposed a paper of rejuvenating the old structures and, at the same time, a new way of instilling vocational aspirations to youth that respond to the new requirements of the Church and society. The Grace finishes the article with an optimist idea: in spite of all changes along the history of the Seminar, this one was and remained the diapason of the Diocese life; here, it may be felt the Diocese pulse through many calls to consecrated life.

Sfânta Scriptură în Seminarul Catolic din Iaşi
Holy Scripture is at the base of Christian life, being the main source for knowing God and light in the salvation way. But, the Bible had a special part in priests formation as well. This study proposes itself to present the modalities of receipting, studying and interpreting the Scripture in Iasi Seminar. This presentation is preceded by an incursion in the way the Bible was used and interpreted in the Universal Church. Finally, it is realized a short assessment, indicating the negative, positive aspects, as well as the perspectives for future.

Pr. Iulian Faraoanu
Biserica, Dumnezeu şi Mielul în Apocalips
One of the leads useful for interpretation the Book of Revelations and his mysteries, is studying the way in which the author uses the Old and the New Testament, having the fact that every verse has at least one reference to the Scripture. Together with the method presented above, another lead might be analyzing the Church images. This study tries to offer a partial light to the concept of Church, seen as a People of God in relationship with God and the Lamb. This people of God is unique and united all through history and in eschatology.

Even if he didn’t write a strictly anthropologic work, the man problem is present very much in Tomas de Aquino writings. For him, the man never was in the state of pure nature, because he always depends on the historical situation of his life. Starting from the substance doctrine of Aristotle, Tomas underlines that the man is composed of two elements: body, as material and soul, as form; between these two elements there is always an intimate, substantial unity. The activity that makes different the man from other body beings is knowledge. Getting the faculty of intellect, the man has not only a sensitive knowledge, but, also, the knowledge possibility at intellectual level: thus, it can achieve the truth, understood as conformity between intellect and known object.

Violența domestică în perspectiva teologiei pastorale
The author seeks, in this article, to catch the social phenomenon of domestic violence in the context of Church ordinary pastoral, with an especial attention to domestic violence on women and children in Romania. The analysis of domestic violence on these categories of persons follows, in a big part that is affirmed by Ana Muntean, professor at Babes-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in an article from 2003. The article ends with pastoral proposals, already applied in different Churches in the world, by which it is sought to combat this phenomenon.

Lect. univ. dr. pr. Florin Spatariu
Vocile castraților în muzica epocii baroce
Starting with the example of the famous emasculated singer Farinelli, father Florin Spatartiu, in this study analyses, at first view, an anomaly that existed and covered the entire Europe during over 200 years, namely, the voices of emasculated people in Baroque era music. These singers represented a category of artists that dominated the Western musical panorama beginning with the last decade of XVI century till classicism period, favoring the appearance of some unequaled musical masterpieces, having as authors Händel, Bach, Purcell, Scarlett etc., meant, in a great part, for these rare voices. The author treats, first of all, the historical aspects, underlining the appearance of this phenomenon and the way it underlied in the second Christian millennium, but at the same time, the music aspects. In the conclusion of this article father underlines that even if we think this way of realizing music to be strange and deviating from nature, for musicians of the Baroque era it was an opportunity to create, render and offer to the humanity unique music values, even if it means the sacrifice of so many normal lives.

Stefan Lupu
Starting from the premise to the sacrament of baptism every Christian is made a priest, Fr. Dr. Stefan Lupu analyzes sacramental foundation of the mission of the priest and the Christian family in society. In the first part of the article, the author seeks to highlight the cultural context of this mission, which is the Christian world. In the second part of the article deal about rediscovering the common priesthood of the faithful with the Council of Vatican II. With scriptural texts as a basis, the author speaks of a people „all priestly” and then, from Lumen Gentium no. 10 show as „recovered” baptismal priesthood. Hence the new face of the Church, which is a people Messianic mission, as the new man, living become „loving relationship with God,” being fulfilled in Jesus and the true glory of God. Form of baptismal priesthood, according to the author, is spirituality / culture Eucharist and best title for this priesthood is the „Mother Church”. In the third part analyzes the spirituality of communion as a form of pastoral action, is especially emphasized pastoral value of this community.

Cristinel Fodor
The theme that treats the author would like to contribute to those things which the Church invites repeatedly: to renew our liturgical celebrations, preparing for graces received in the sacraments and developing them for the sacrament, the faithful enter into communion with the Holy Trinity, to experience participation in the divine nature and, thus, they should be built by the Church as a sign and realization of God’s presence in the world. After a theoretical presentation of their authors proceed to analyze their practice, that is to analyze how the preparations for receiving the sacraments become fruitful. The author deals with how we look at those who ask for the sacraments, how long preparations and the creation of a model of training as prescribed by the Church, about some rules to be followed in the first meeting, how to address unbelievers during the administration of the sacraments, ending with mystagogy of the first meeting. Then, one by one analyzed in the light of these premises, preparing to receive the sacraments and how they are administered.

Felician Tiba
The author of the article which follows, examines issues priest and the Christian family as trainers through sacred vocation. First, Fr. F. Tiba deals with the genesis of this reality that is called „family”, seeking his roots on her moments of glory, and the fall, identifying his needs. The author states that the natural family is the first institution that goes beyond Christianity, Christ is love novelty and establishing the sacrament of Matrimony. Further, based on the symbolism bones, Fr. F. Tiba emphasizes the dignity of women, but also its role in the knowledge of God by man. Pr. Isidor IACOVICI
Familia și fenomenul emigrării
Assuming that none of the family who went abroad did not choose this way of looking at God, to the saints, but to earn money, which is the author analyzes the phenomenon of immigration issues and the impact of this phenomenon on family. First, the author indicates that the family is forced to emigrate and highlights the reasons for this need, but also dangers involved. Another painful reality treated by Fr. James I. Nonconformity is the promise to reality in the sending country. In this context, the author talks about church involvement in immigration phenomenon by sending priests to spiritual care of their countrymen by helping immigrants and different cultural and spiritual manifestations. Further, the author analyzes the family in the context of migration and its consequences, among which is that of coexistence sacrament against which they are made some arguments and remedies. Finally, it deals with immigrants and jobs they provide in the host country.

Pr. Daniel Mărtinaş
Familia și fenomenul emigrării
In this article, the author examines the family in the context of increasingly widespread phenomenon of migration, based on existing realities in the local Church of Iasi. First, he talks about the changes in society with the fall of the communist regime and the need to impose family migration. Then he summarizes the implications of migration on the family. He still refers to the harsh reality that many families emigrated collide, in reality much different from what they had been promised before departure. In these dramatic circumstances, the author wonders how the Church works, both the local and the universal context. All he replied by concrete examples involving the Church for spiritual and material support to the immigrants. Not overlooked consequences of migration for family institution, is actually shown some of these, with a particular focus on the case of young people who live without marrying, bringing some arguments and remedies to this situation. The article ends with the report-labor of emigration.

Pr. Iosif IACOB
Căsătoria, sacrament al noii alianțe
Documents of Vatican II as Lumen Gentium, Apostolicam Actuositatem, Sacrosanctum Concilium, and especially Gaudium et Spes highlight the interest that the Church manifests for the Sacrament of Matrimony, in the context of developments and new vision proposed by the present society (divorce, abortion, feminist movements etc.).The contemporary society, following a long and reinforced theological tradition of marriage, is called to implement into the family life of our times, the principles proposed by the gospel in order to live a married life “in Christ”.The biblical vision of the human person, the way the nature and the grace are perceived are points of departure and reference for a complex and objective view on the sacrament of marriage. The nature, the value, the effects and purposes of marriage proposed by the ecclesiastical tradition are fundamental aspects that give consistency to the consent of sacramental marriage. The conjugal morality has its ultimate foundation not in human laws but in the divine laws that man cannot change according to its own interests. The state, as representative and guardian of the community wellbeing, is charged with promoting the values   and principles for the good of the family and implicitly of the society itself, whose basic unit is the family. In this regard the Council encourages the closeness between the values   of the doctrine and the spirit of today’s society, as well as raising public awareness to doctrinal lasting values   of faith. The personalist vision proposed by the council, as well as the vocation to holiness in married life, along with what love and procreation represents in a full and stable community of conjugal life corresponds to the values proposed by  the Church as a sacramental reality of marriage, according to Christ’s will for the wellbeing of the person and all mankind.

Conceptul de persoană la Jacques Maritain
The Christian anthropology has at its base the concept of the person. The anthropologic oration of Jacques Maritain is focused on the human person as well, with its own characteristics. Maritain, commentator of Tomas de Aquino, takes from Thomism the general structure of his anthropology. His oration starts from the distinction between „specimen” and „person”, present distinction since first works. For the Maritain anthropology is characteristic that it is a metaphysical base. In this respect, we find in the texts of the French thinker a profound analysis of the ontological structure of a person: subsistence, understood as that, in its specific nature, has its being in and for itself; and personality (in a metaphysical sense, not psychological), seen as a balance between subjectivity and objectivity, between independence and dependence, through which the child is growing up and accepts actively the human condition.

Pr.  Iulian Faraoanu
Așteptarea creștină a venirii Fiului Omului (Lc 17,26-30)
The eschatology problem is present everywhere in Saint Luke gospel. But, the tension and the eschatology waiting are in a close relationship with the history.
The fragment from Lc 17,26-30 is included in the same eschatology domain, more precise the theme related to the waiting of Jesus second coming. The comparison with the days of Noah and Lot have an exhortatory function, inviting the people of the Saint Luke community to look at the heavenly realities. The delay of Christ’s second coming does not have to determine a life orientated only to the humanly activities, in this forgetting God. The waiting of Christ’s coming must always be alive, knowing that the Lord may come soon and his coming must find us ready.

Body and ethics stands at the intersection of moral theology, anthropology, sociology and even culture in the broad sense of the term. In this article, Professor Violeta Barbu presents an anthropological perspective, the issue of body and of ethics, which has undergone many changes over the past five decades. Starting from the presentation of the Christian vision of the body during history, from St. Paul’s anthropology to the theology of the body of John Paul II, is now revealed the rift between body and soul that evolved to highlight the growing body in society and acquiring an overly important role. One common fronts of the Christian worldview and post-modern, but also a bone of contention, is the importance of body health and off-line medical and ethical
biology. However, two problems are analyzed morally and socially,  euthanasia(mercy killing) and abortion. In conclusion, Prof. Violeta Barbu includes all processes related to the ethical vision issues associated body and the phenomenon of secularization, a phenomenon increasingly entering in our country.

Mons. Roland Minnerath (Dijon, Franţa)
Evanghelizarea şi postmodernitatea
From the beginning, Christianity has interacted with cultural elements that have ensured a greater ease in preaching and spreading the Gospel. Christianity entered a world where religion was part of the culture. Taking the starting points the cultural elements, Mons. Roland Minnerath wants to capture those key points that can be used in contemporary evangelization. First, there are highlighted the Christian elements that contributed to the formation of Western culture. Next, we analyze trends and principles which have replaced Christian culture with a secular culture, a phenomenon that led to the need for a new evangelization. In the last part, are brought to light deficiencies in the post-modern culture, among which the lack of future prospects and human helplessness in the face of death problem.

Prof. Vittorio Possenti (Venezia, Italia)
Biserica şi secularizarea: curtea păgânilor
In this article, the author examines the relationship between secularization and the Church in terms of „the court of the Gentiles” which is inserted in the report delicately between Church and secularization. Liberal democracies, different religions were equated time, that is why the public should take from them a position of indifference and neutrality, this is true for universal religions, which were required to be limited to long private sector. Such democracies have abandoned the Hegelian scheme in which religion is incorporated and abstracted in the evolution of society and true within the state; in Europe, in addition, they are removed the American scheme, in which religion is a foundation independent of the company, remaining separate politics. For all that, a significant change is unfolded in secular thinking of the environments.

Pr. Prof. Dr. Emil Dumea (Iaşi)
Religie şi valori în era globalizării

In this article, Fr. Emil Dumea proposes a reflection on globalization and the influence of this complex phenomenon on religion. The first part is an overview of globalization, which includes multiple spheres of human activity: economic, social, technological, cultural, political, environmental, etc. After this general reflection, the author presents several historical stages of cultural globalization with reference to regional and local examples. In the last part there are opened to question values of the process of globalization in the context in which they differ from one culture to another, from one individual to another, both by training and continuity.

Mons. Marcelo Sorondo (Vatican, Italia)
Secularizarea provocată de ştiinţă

In this article, the author examines the biblical verse „Veritas vos liberavit” – “The truth will set you free” and the pastoral challenges and strategies in the secularization of the Church. The reference point in this study is the relationship between faith and reason, the ratio between them, being two forms of evangelization: from faith to reason, and from reason to faith. Based on this report, the author talks about the conflict between the objective and philosophical reflection in the human practice. In first place, Msgr. M. Sorondo analyzed the neurological sciences and self-interpretation, then talks about conflict in the brain, the mind, the soul and being, and finally to refer the issue of evolution and creation for human beings as a third place of conflict. In the treatment of the subject, the author makes use of both the Bible and the Magisterium of the Church, but also from different philosophers in different periods of history.

Pr. Conf. Dr. Ştefan Lupu (Iaşi)
L’eredità spirituale del beato John Henry Card. Newman
In this article it is analyzed the life and the activity of the Cardinal Newman and also a few theological ideas. In the first part of the article, the author refers on the life of the Cardinal, his spiritual life in different phases of his conversion. First he was a protestant converted to the Evangelic Church, then to the Anglican Church, and finally reached to the Catholic Church. In the second part of the article, Pr. Stefan Lupu presents Newman’s view on holiness, starting from the motto printed on his emblem as Cardinal: Cor ad cor loquitur – Heart speaks to heart. There are presented the Newman’s notions on the necessity of holiness, both on the concrete one and the offered one, then on holiness as challenge, and finally on the personal holiness in Newman’s theology. At the end of the article, it is analyzed the sanctity of Newman, declared Blessed by the Pope Benedict the XVIth on 19th September 2010.

Pr. Lect. Dr. Tarciziu Şerban (Iaşi)
Profilul „omului nou” în scrisoarea către Efeseni
Starting from the Saint Paul’s Epistle to Ephesians, the author of the dissertation analyzed the profile of the Newman as it is exposed by the Apostle to the Gentiles. The premise is the model offered by the people of present time, people of an impeccable moral behavior and of a strong faith, who are now saints. In the first part of this article, there is presented the metaphoric language from Ef 6,10-20, that is the Saint Paul’s way to present the spiritual fight of the Christian, by comparing it with a triumphal battle of a very well equipped soldier. In the second part, there are a few metaphoric notions, which sketched a profile of the addressees of the St. Paul’s Epistle to Ephesians, asking them to acquire the four virtues enumerated in the vv. 14-16 of the same chapter. In Conclusions, the author shows how the two semantic levels – metaphorical and metaphorised – joined and build a message.

Card. Zenon Grocholewski (Vatican, Italia)
Adevăr şi libertate. O problemă fundamentală
In the allocution presented in the occasion of receiving the title of Doctor honoris causa from the University „Al.I. Cuza” of Iaşi, his Eminence Card. Zenon Grocholewski analyzed the fundamental problem of today’s society, the one of truth and liberty. In the beginning, the author notices that man, by his unique nature, aspires to these two great values, interconnected values, because the fidelity to truth determines the exercise of liberty, and this not only theoretically but also practically, in action, fact that leads to conquer the true human and social progress. Our model, worthy to be followed is Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of truth which liberates man. As the author mentions, Christian freedom assumes two valences: to follow the Christ and vivere in conspectu Dei. After analyzing liberty in the relation with the law of Decalogue, the Cardinal Grocholewski presents the figure of the Christ, who is truth, love and the new law for umanity; that is why only the Eucharist is the „food for the hungry man seeking for truth and liberty”.

Prof. Dr. Flavio Pajer (Roma, Italia)
The theme of this article is the religious education, seen in the view of the religious identity, of the interreligious dialogue and of the secular spirituality, in the context of a multicultural and globalized word. In the first part of the article, the author analyzed the religious identity in front of the “different”, identity that is considered to be more fragile. That is why, in the second part, he is asking what kind of identity has to be promoted in a pluralist context, trying to give an answer to this important question of our society. In the third part, Prof. Flavio Pajer shows that public education has to be like a chamber of dialogue, a stimulus for living together, which does not lead to uniformity, but rather to responsibility. Finally, there are exposed the new religious competences necessary for living in pluralism.

Pr. Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Dancă (Iaşi)
Biserica şi Statul la Mons. Anton Durcovici
Starting from eighteen declarations of Msgr. Anton Durcovici in the prison of the Ministry of Interior Affairs from Bucureşti, pr. prof. Wilhelm Dancă analyses the relation between Church and State as it result from the declarations of the Bishop of Iasi, underlining the problem of secularism. The author’s intention is to discover how Anton Durcovici opposed to the invasion of the State-Party in the life of the Church, analyzing firstly the soviet archetypal of relation between Church and State, archetypal where there is a difference between status de iure (separation between Church and State and School) and status de facto (the pressings on the Catholic and Orthodox Church), and in the second part the implementation of this model to the Romanian area conforming to his declarations from prison; from this declarations results that the great preoccupation of the communist regime in the period 1947-1948 was to eliminate the presence of the Catholic Church from the public life. In conclusion, the author  mentions that the motivation received from Msgr. Anton Durcovici in front of secularization and secularism can be characterized through two words: education and charity.

Pr. Prof. Dr. Eduard Ferenţ (Iaşi)
Strigătul unui păstor patern în vederea evanghelizării credincioşilor săi
Through a dogmatic approach to the theme of secularism, pr. prof. Edward Ferenţ analyzed the context and the coordinates of the evangelization as it is seen by the Second Council of Vatican and by the first bishop of Iasi, Nicolae Iosif Camilli, and then is looking for an answer that is given by secularism to the new evangelization of people from the third millennium. Firstly, starting from the documents of the Second Council of Vatican, the author shows which is the social context of the new evangelization – secularization of the human life, that is the removal of people from God. Then the author exposes the coordinates of the evangelization of the first Shepherd of the Dioceses of Iasi, Bishop N.I. Camilli, presenting the paternal shout of this bishop as it is presented in a discourse addressed to the Catholics from Paris. Finally, the author, starting from the text of the bishop of Iasi, shows that even in that time the Dioceses of Iasi intended to answer to secularization through a new evangelization of man. In conclusion, pr. prof. E. Ferenţ shows what the new evangelization should defend: identity of the Christ, the primacy of the Kingdom and the centrality of salvation, the identity of the church, the Sacramental identity of the church, and the human dignity.

Aspecte spirituale în închisorile regimului comunist
The resistance to the oppression and the moral survival in the prisons of the  communist regime were rooted especially on faith, no matter the confession, and the confessional membership was not an impediment for the dialogue and the  fraternal cohabitation. Despite the immense bibliography, the author evokes in this article only some examples from an enormous casuistic whose analysis is just at the beginning. In the first part of this article, there are mentioned a series of memorials studies and the modalities of recuperating the data from the communist period which highlighted especially the horrors, the cruelty, the actions of that system. In the second part there are presented the examples of the people who had the tragic destiny through supporting the Calvary of the detention.

History was and remains Mater et magistra. It teaches always while the world is elder and elder, while the faith in God darkens and the morality of the society softens. It teaches that, while the fervor of life debilitates, God as the permanent Lord of the humanity, in the mystery of his goodness, raises new personalities, because he is being concerned with both the strengthening of the faith and the reforming of the conduct of the society. In this article, Fr. Eduard Ferenţ emphasizes the events and the personalities who evoke the spirit and the mentality of the predecessors. In this mentality can be remarked that during the recent history the vivid need to defense the human and the Christian identity determined many people to resist even with the sacrifice of their own life. This resistance constitutes the moment of the maturation as human being and Christians.

Emil Dumea
Biserică şi stat în România contemporană
In this article, Fr. Emil Dumea synthesizes the relationship between the Romanian state and the Church in the XX-th century. Through mentioning the constitutional disposals after the creation of modern Romanian state and the adoption of its first constitution, the one from 1866, till nowadays legislation, the author classifies the confessions in Romania, on the first place being the Orthodox Church, because of the majority of population, which are orthodox, and the common development of the institutions of the Orthodox Church and the progressive history of the modern Romanian state forming, from the Middle Age till today. The juridical history of Romania highlights the continuous braiding between the two institutions: that is why the Romanian Orthodox Church maintains a privileged position and the state defenses and promotes its interests.

In the last years the Historical Research Department of the Roman-Catholic Bishopric approached a series of themes from the recent history, especially from the period 1948-1964, which coincided with the years of the Stalinist regime of Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej. In this article, Dănuţ Doboş, member of this department, resumed the work and the results concerning these themes, obtained through the analysis of the discovered archive documents. The author reaches the conclusion that the victims of the communist regime are not anymore perceived as exemplar for the whole word. The justice closed the chapter of the juridical public rehabilitation; the authorities and the public opinion ignore them; the same thing can be said about the historical books and the new generations; there are some voices tributary to the past time which dishonest their memory, amplifying the crimes whose culpable is the communist Security.

Violeta Barbu
Memoria totalitarismului dintr-o perspectivă catolică. O dezbatere istorică
As an anthropological experience of the transitory things, memory depends on the concrete significations of the transfer from a generation to the other generation. Prof. Violeta Barbu wishes to stress the discrepancies which exist between the catholic perspective and the secularist one concerning the memory of totalitarianism of XX century, with its two faces, fascism and communism. In the first part of the article, the author mentions and analyses the classical approaches of the political philosophy of some notorious authors, e.g. Hannah Arendt, Thomas Mann, Walderman Gurian and so on. In the first part also there is broached the history of the conceptions about the two types of totalitarianism beginning with the time of the Cold War till today. In the second part, the author affirms that the model of the political philosophy of a unique totalitarianism with two faces relied on the historic differences has to be re-dimensioned according with the European cultural model of diversity, known as a defining factor of the identity of the reunited Europe. This cultural model was underlined by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church through the encyclical letters of the Pope John Paul II. Also there are highlighted some historical contributions of the Pope.

Ioan Mitrofan
Fr. Ioan Mitrofan sustains in this study the cause of his Church, persecuted during its relative short history of 300 years. The first part of this study represents a systematic division in periods of this history, whose purpose is to underline that Greek-Catholic Church from Romania is an institution with history full of events, even if not always happy, especially in the second part of the last century when participated to the great competition of the resistance against the communist system imposed in the Central and Eastern Europe, together with the other United Churches, persecuted in the same way, together with the Roman-Catholic Church with the national nuance. The author is not as historian, but a witness of the recent history of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church. In the second part there is debated the problem of the dialogue between the Roman-Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, between the Greek-Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. Then, the author presents the positive aspects of the liberation from communism for the Greek-Catholic Church. Finally, the author describes his activity as priest in the time of the communist dictatorship.

George Enache
Berdiaev şi comunismul
In this article, the author proposes for discussion the reasons of the Church persecution in the communist epoch, and the contradictions from the communist ideology, underlined by the Russian philosopher Nikolai Berdiaev (1874-1948), who in his writings dealt with the philosophy of the religions. The fight of the communists against Christendom signified a crumbling of the spiritual flush from their beings, and this fact encouraged them to change the face of the whole world, because by destroying the roots poked in the Christian past, they wanted to create a mechanic and atheist world. A disputable detail of this article constitutes the definition of the Church as emanation of divinity, as a result of a divine-human process. The term “Church” has two different meanings: on one hand, it is the mystic body of the Christ and his spiritual reality, and, on the other hand, a social phenomenon and a social institution related to state, they existing together and having their own right and economy.

Adrian Petcu
The monastic problem which started with the reform of the prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza who asked the monasteries to have no land propriety, devastated the monasteries, so, at the beginning of XX century, there remained only some monasteries which hardly functioned. After the Second World War, at he beginning of the installation of the communist regime, an important role concerning the solution of this problem had the patriarch Justinian Marina. The study of Adrian Nicolae Petcu aims to underline the function of the patriarch in organizing and developing the Orthodox monasticism in the communist period. Even if was seen as a collaborator of the communist party, patriarch Justinian Marina deluded every appearance through the reforms he applied in order to resuscitate the orthodox monastic spirit and to form an elite staff among the monks who constituted the future army of the orthodox monasticism.

Wilhelm Dancă
Rugăciunea şi căderea comunismului în România
The wonder which took place in December 1989, so how defined Doina Cornea, a notorious personality of the Romanian anticommunist resistance, the events of that year, represents a victory of the spiritual values on the materialist and atheist ideals. In this article, Rev. Wilhelm Dancă proposes, following the profile of this personality, a clear understanding of the term “wonder” related to the events from December 1989. Employing the memories of some heroes of the anticommunist resistance and evoking his personal memories, Rev. Wilhelm Dancă wishes to underline the contribution of the spiritual factor, especially the one of the pray, to the fall of communism. That is why, he analyses this factor in three different perspectives: prayer as form of resistance against the evil, prayer as a gateway from a closed world and prayer as the space of meeting God himself. For the Catholic Church, the life during the communist time was like a day at sunset which was not ending any more. But the quotidian physical and spiritual sacrifices of our good lay people and priests prepared the happiness of regaining the freedom.
